Our homes are our havens and when we are in our homes we need to feel safe and secure. Locks help assure nobody comes in and gas and smoke detectors help protect us from within our homes assuring that if a gas leak or fire occurs we know about it soon enough to get to safety. Everybody should have a gas detector and a smoke detector in their home; it’s as simple as that. If for some reason you don’t have a gas detector or your gas detector is old then perhaps you could use a little help in what to look for when buying a gas detector.

First of all, check to see how many gases the gas detector can detect. Most people just need a gas detector capable of detecting carbon monoxide however if you live in an area where you may be potentially exposed to more gases you will certainly want a gas detector capable of picking up all of those. Just make sure you know what you need so you will know what to shop for.

Another important aspect of a home gas detector is battery life. You will want a detector that runs on batteries and that has a long life. If the battery life is too short and your gas detector dies then it won’t be protecting you. Make sure your home gas detector has an alarm, light, or something of that nature that goes off when the battery is dying so that you will know to replace it.

If you live near a landfill, refinery, power plant, or anything of that nature then a Minirae gas detector system will alert you at any time there are unsafe levels of gas in the air. There is nothing wrong with taking precautions to ensure you and your family are safe and RAE Systems has a variety of gas detectors for your home that will allow you to sleep well at night.

In this day and age we should not rely on companies and our government to let us know when there are unsafe levels of gases in the air. Instead, we should take some responsibility as well and have a gas detector in our home to help us stay safe at all times.

Everybody wants to feel safe at home, of course, but do you realize that your home is also prone to danger such fire, injury and so on?

Disaster can take place anytime, anywhere, including at home and unfortunately, we sometimes ignore that fact. Here are some tips to protect you and your family while enjoying your precious time at home.

Be extra careful with FIRE. According to the data from National Fire Protection Association (NFPA),in the USA alone, in 2004, there were 1,5 millions fire and those killed 4000 people and almost 20,000 injured. The fire also cost property damage on US$ 9 billion. Keep your children away from the stove and oven and do not go to bed without checking whether your kitchen appliances have been properly turned off or not. Install smoke detector and change when needed to ensure safety. Do not leave hot iron, or your stove on and make sure that your cigarettes are totally out before you empty the ashtray into the trash (if you are smoker).

Check your electrical equipment periodically to see whether it is installed properly or maybe it needs the new one because fire can be caused by electricity shortcut.

Keep your poison and hazardous materials like room spray, mosquito killers and so on from your children. Children are curious about everything, and there are some cases children have near died after drinking mosquito spray.

Never put your furniture on your verandas or balconies, especially if you have under 5-year-old kid. Your kids can climb up on in and take a life threatening fall.. Use gate barriers to keep your children away from stairs and steps. Stairs must be lighted properly.

Choking and injury is also one of the most killing disasters at home. Make sure that there is no tiny or hard object near your children. Keep sharp, hard objects like needles, nails out of your children’s reach. If you cook, do not let your children go near you, especially if you are holding a knife.

Place rubber mats in your bathroom to protect slippery surfaces from creating a fall. Clean your bathroom floor after taking a bath. When your children take a bath, monitor them closely.

Make sure that every door in your house is locked properly before you go to sleep or before you go to work. Create a peephole to see who is outside before letting someone enter your house. Keep your garage shut and money in safety in deposit box.
